Charlie Langton and Detroit Lions Sideline Reporter/WWJ Sports Anchor Tony Ortiz discuss why Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was so mad about Ndamukong Suh’s leg kick. Apparently, Schaub plays without a cup.

Schaub has been quoted saying he doesn’t want him on the team and that he’s not “Texans material.”

Explaining what could be motivating Schaub to make these comments Ortiz said, “In his mind and in the mind of a lot of Houstan Texans fans and broadcasters down there — they believe that the kick was intentional.”

“Matt Schaub is still, no pun intended here, sore about what happened …” added Ortiz.

Langton believes that the league should mandate the specific protective equipment and they should go further, “Schaub should be fined for not wearing a cup,” he said.

NFL officials have determined that the kick wasn’t intentionally aimed for Schaub’s groin and declined to suspend Suh. The league levied a $30,000 fine on Suh. Related: Lions’ Suh Fined $30,000; Says Kick Not On Purpose (Video)

“There are some players, a lot of players who do not wear cups. It depends on the position you play,” explained Ortiz. It’s common for offensive and defensive lineman to wear cups to protect themselves from dirty play and natural impacts at the line of scrimmage and at the bottom of a pile when players are fighting hard for a fumble.

“I am shocked at this revelation in football that these people don’t wear cups and they go for the you know what.” said Langton.
